Thanks for your post, mate.
I understand where you're coming from: it can sometimes seem like ex-users are like these 'reformed smokers' - and get really over-zealous about how bad drugs are, and how they want to help rid the streets of this scourge...blah-de-blah...
I can't help but think to myself: So it was OK when YOU wanted to use drugs; but now YOU don't - no-one else can! NIce attitude, eh?!
I would argue that for some people, if it wasn't for Heroin, etc, they may nnot be still with us, because it's got them through times when otherwise they may've decided to do themselves-in, as their head-trauma is too much for them to cope with.
I know more than one person - often women, but not exclusively - who are in this position, and feel Heroin got them through a difficult time, and nothing else would've quite "done the job".
I still find it hard going from being, basically, as out-of-it as I could get, as often as I could, to pretty-much straight all the time! I don't drink alcohol, and having knocked the old Horse on the head, life's very 'sober' for me! I sympathise with you, mate. There is something about the mission to score, getting away with getting home without getting nicked, etc... BUt life CAN be good in other ways, I've found...
But it ain't easy, eh?!
Good luck - and take care,
Si
